All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar is an institute of national importance established by an Act of Parliament in 2012. It was envisaged with the aim to provide excellence in medical education, research, and services to the last man in the queue. The Department of Community Medicine and Family Medicine was one of the first departments to start at inception. It stands out as the first department to start the family clinic, conduct the first workshop of the institute, and one of the first departments to start the postgraduate programme. The Department has adopted one urban and two rural peripheral health centres besides the immunization & yellow fever, NCD & preventive oncology, and ICTC clinics in the hospital.
